Overview

Our Mission

Citi, the Citi Foundation and Citi employees have contributed to support COVID relief efforts in the UK through donations, fundraising and volunteering.

Over $1 Million

has been donated in the UK by Citi and the Citi Foundation

$150,000 raised

by Citi employees for UK charities

11 charities supported

by Citi employees through virtual volunteering

Our Response

Supporting the Most Vulnerable in Society

Citi and the Citi Foundation have committed over $1 million of financial contributions to charities in the UK, including The Felix Project, London Community Foundation, Community Foundation Northern Ireland, NHS Charities Together and Barnado’s. In addition to Citi Foundation grants made in response to COVID, we have worked with our existing Citi Foundation partners to understand where we need to be flexible and adapt our support to the challenging circumstances. Responses have ranged from extending delivery timelines to shifting funds to unrestricted to allow organisations to direct funds where most needed.

Employees have also contributed generously through an employee matched fundraising campaign that saw employees donate to The Felix Project ($36,508), Social Bite ($4,111) and South Belfast Food Bank ($14,453). In addition a “Give an Hour of Salary” campaign saw employees donate to NHS Charities Together ($23,180) and Community Foundation Northern Ireland ($4,004).

Employees have also continued to raise funds for our London Charity Partner, Guide Dogs, who have seen a dramatic loss of income as a result of the COVID lockdown. Activities have included a pet selfie competition, virtual quiz nights, sporting challenges and a “Give an Hour of Salary” campaign.

Many employees have volunteered to support local communities during the COVID crisis. Some have done so independently, but Citi worked with 11 community partners to connect those wishing to volunteer to opportunities available. Citi volunteers are primarily working to support young people given the firm’s philanthropic area of focus and the disproportionate job loss amongst young people as a result of COVID. Organisations we partnered with include XLP, Career Ready, Think Forward, ELBA and Young Enterprise. Volunteers are also leading befriending calls with the elderly and delivering reading sessions with young children.

Our Initiatives

Citi Foundation donates $425,000 to support COVID relief in London

London Community Foundation (LCF), through its COVID-19 Response programme leveraged Citi Foundation funds to contribute to LCF’s London Coronavirus Appeal efforts. Specifically, LCF granted funds to support charitable organizations across London that meet their due diligence and selection standards and that align with thematic priorities, including food, youth, domestic abuse, refugees and economic migrancy, homelessness and vulnerable people.

Funds will also be used to develop strategic partnerships with infrastructure organizations representing different marginalized community groups, to help build capacity for those organizations to apply, overcome barriers to applications and share grassroots intelligence to inform ongoing grant making.

Providing Support to Families and Front Line Healthcare Workers

In an effort to assist with COVID-19 response efforts, our EMEA Rates business raised $440,000. These funds have been donated to The Felix Project in the UK ($220,000), as well as Banco Alimentare della Lombardia and two additional charities in Italy. The EMEA Rates donation is providing meals for families deeply impacted by the pandemic in London and Lombardy, as well as to front line health and social carers.

The Felix Project provides meals to the most vulnerable people in London. During this crisis, they have delivered large quantities of food into new emergency food hubs, delivered to hospitals, as well as directly supporting NHS workers. “Thanks to the amazing support of Citi, The Felix Project has delivered over 5.5 million meals to hundreds of thousands of vulnerable Londoners since lockdown, “said Mark Curtin, The Felix Project Chief Executive.

Employee Fundraising

Over a three week period, Citi employees donated to selected UK charities to support NHS workers and vulnerable members of the community affected by COVID-19.

In total £163,536 was raised. This amount includes the funds donated by employees and matched by Citi.

Employees across Citi in the UK continue to run fundraising and volunteering initiatives. For example, colleagues in Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory completed a sporting challenge raising more than £100,000 for NHS Charities Together.
