Our Mission

At IHG, our commitment to caring for people comes naturally to a business which stands for providing True Hospitality for everyone. With 5,900 hotels in over 100 countries, we are at the heart of local communities and recognise our potential to make a difference. Our care and support has never been needed more than this past year, as we all work through the uncertain times brought about by COVID-19.

Taking care of others comes naturally to the hospitality industry and I am proud of how IHG’s owners, colleagues and charity partners came together to help those in need. I’m pleased that we had the opportunity to work with the Mayor’s office to support the recovery effort in London.

Supporting Communities Across The World

From the UK to the US and everywhere in between, we have been working with governments, local authorities and our owners to provide accommodation in hundreds of our hotels to those who need it most. This includes offering a safe place to shelter for the most vulnerable members of society as well as looking after thousands of healthcare workers, including through our partnership with #FirstRespondersFirst to provide over 2,000 free room nights in the US to those leading relief efforts on the frontline.

Safety and Support for London's Most Vulnerable​

In the UK, working closely with our owners, we partnered with the Greater London Authority and the charity St Mungo’s to help nearly 2,000 vulnerable people off the streets and into individual hotel rooms in 6 IHG branded hotels in London.

Through this partnership we were able to provide not only a safe place to stay but a base from which to access crucial support and services for those who needed it most. Among those who stayed with us was a former nurse, forced to give up work due to a health condition, who was sleeping rough until she was able to move into one of our hotels in March, from where she was able to speak to her counsellors from St. Mungo’s every day. Speaking about her experience, she said – “It’s giving me a chance to think about my future. I’m hoping to get my life back together and do something useful. I’d like to go back to school and become a social worker.”

Our unique partnership worked so well, that more hotels and councils began to offer similar solutions.  These unprecedented times have shown us the value in working collaboratively, thinking differently and finding ways to use our skills, resources and the power of our people to respond to this crisis in ways that ensure support is there when it is needed most.
